Children Education Ministry, Herald Mission Center
This year, we have officially taken over the children’s education ministry at the Herald Mission Center, which primarily includes the existing after-school tutoring programs and summer camps. Looking ahead, we hope to expand our educational offerings by introducing parent-child classes to strengthen the connection between home and school. We also plan to organize a North American study tour camp for Chinese high school students, addressing the gap in our ministry’s outreach to this age group.
Reflecting on this year’s summer camp, we were particularly touched by the music program. In China, our music ministry primarily focused on high school and college students, but this summer was a new experience as we invited Dr. Edwin Tanner to teach music to young children. Music is an indispensable part of a child’s development, and many educational experts point out that music training not only enhances cognitive and emotional expression but also promotes brain development.
For instance, music educator Markus Suskind once said, “Music is a form of communication that transcends words, touching the soul and evoking the deepest emotional resonance.” Every stage of childhood has its own appropriate music training. Dr. Tanner effectively implemented this concept, customizing individual music education plans for each child, tailoring lessons to their unique abilities. Each class was essentially a personalized experience, a fine example of differentiated instruction.
After multiple in-depth discussions with Dr. Tanner, we are planning to upgrade our current afterschool program by incorporating music literacy training. Through this, we aim to cultivate a youth music group that can bless various churches with their talents. Our greater vision is to inspire a new form of “Seeker Worship Service,” where instead of children following adults to church, adults are led by children in worship. We hope that through the power of music, more people can be guided toward faith.
We pray for the Lord’s guidance in this education ministry, that it may continue to shine in foundational education and fulfill its mission of evangelism. Amen!
